Individual - Leadership Self-Reflection Essay

Individual - Leadership Self-Reflection Essay

Q Leadership Self-Reflection Essay, BUSI 2200 If we choose to develop our capacity to lead, we gain the ability to make a positive contribution to our teams, our organizations, our communities, and our world. I hope that this course has provided you with an opportunity to develop your team and leadership skills. To complete this assignment, please reflect on your work with your team this semester and on what you have learned in this class and write a 2-3-page paper that answers the following questions: 1. Leadership: a. What does it mean to be a leader? Provide a personal definition of leadership. b. Do you see yourself as a leader or as someone who has the potential to lead? (If neither applies, you may write about your followership abilities here.) c. What qualities do you have that could help you to lead others (OR support others in leadership roles?) 2. Team Skills: a. How did you contribute to the success of your team? b. What team skills (you must write about at least 2 different skills) have you either successfully demonstrated or worked to develop this semester? c. In what areas do you need to improve to be a better teammate in the future? (*See list of team skills in the assignment folder on Blackboard.) 3. Lessons Learned: a. What were your top 3 lessons that you can take away in relation to being an effective member of a team? b. You will use these lessons and 4. SMART Goal: a. How will the experiences, skills and lessons learned that you have identified impact your future success in team projects? b. This is where you will create a SMART Goal for your future success. Structural requirements: Your paper should have four distinct parts with headings for each (Leadership Self-Reflection, Team Skills Self-Reflection, Lessons learned, and SMART Goal analysis). A good paper will include one or two specific examples of situations or interactions where you have demonstrated team skills, leadership and/or followership skills at work. These do not have to be grand acts you performed to lead your team from despair to victory. They can be small examples from your SLICEs, your project, your meetings, your team assignments, or big examples where you truly did ‘save the day’. Tell me how you applied the team and leadership/followership skills we talked about this semester. It will also include a listing of 3 lessons that you learned during the semester, and a properly formatted SMART goal. Please demonstrate that you understand and can apply the SMART goal concept to your future plans. In general, a paper that exceeds expectations is an essay which is personal, thoughtful, insightful, and written well. An essay which meets expectations is much the same but perhaps lacking somewhat in completeness or insights. An essay which needs work would be superficial, impersonal, and filled with spelling errors and/or grammatical problems. Please include your name, class section or meeting time, team number and team name. It has been a pleasure sharing this experience with you this semester. All the best, Steve Garrett

Leadership, everyone believes they can be an effective leader or are an effective leader. However, not many people understand what being an effective leader means nor what even a leader means. There are people who are managers running around, managing specific tasks but not many leaders. Also, more bosses then managers running around. Always taking pictures, pointing out everyone’s shortcoming, wondering why the team is not getting better that they are leading, pointing out what someone did wrong, never giving any credit only blame, too many of them running around if you ask me.
